  • With the unveiling of the EQC SUV in a 5-seater arrangement, Mercedes-Benz has begun its electric journey in India.
  • The price of the electrified SUV is Rs 1.06 crore (ex-showroom).
  • It only comes in one model: the 400 4MATIC.
  • An 80-kilowatt-hour battery pack powers two electric motors, one on each axle, on the EQC. These motors have a total power of 408PS and 760Nm. With the battery pack completely charged, the EQC can go more than 450 kilometres according to the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle).
  • It includes a 7.4 kWh home charger that can charge the electric SUV from 10% to 100% in 10 hours. It uses a standard 15-amp outlet to deliver a maximum of 3.4kWh of electricity and takes 21 hours to charge from 10% to 100%. The EQC can be charged from 10% to 100% in approximately 1.5 hours using a 50kW DC fast charger.
  • A head-up display, two 12.3-inch screens with the newest MBUX infotainment system, steering-wheel touchpads, smartphone-based connected car tech, a 13-speaker Burmester sound system, three-zone climate control, and 64 levels of ambient lighting are all available.
  • The Jaguar I-Pace, BMW iX, and Audi e-tron are all competitors for the EQC.

The EQC blazes a new route for electric driving — and for Mercedes-Benz — with an uncompromising blend of comfort, performance, design, intelligence, and technology.

Mercedes-Benz designed a brand-new driving system to offer the EQC the performance it deserved. The EQC has tiny electric drive trains on each axle, giving it the confident and dynamic qualities of an all-wheel drive car, with 402 horsepower and 561 pound-feet of torque. The EQC is ready to take on any highway with its ability to fast-charge from 10% to 80% in 40 minutes.

While the new car is readily recognizable as a Mercedes-Benz, it also takes a bold new aesthetic direction. At the front, the grille and headlamps are unified in a sleek black-panel surface, which is highlighted by an LED Light Band at the top. Inside, an asymmetrical cockpit gives the driver solid and intuitive control, while rose-gold accents give the electric vehicle a distinct look. The digital and physical worlds collide in a seamless way, empowering whoever takes the wheel.

That is supported by the vehicle's technology. The EQC responds to the driver's natural, conversational language and is equipped with the industry-leading MBUX media system. The system assists in the regulation of the vehicle's functions and learns over time. Additional EQ options have been added to help manage the vehicle's charge state, energy flow, range display, and other aspects of electric driving. The EQC is more than simply an electric car; it's a bold statement about the future of driving, thanks to the ECO Assist system that helps maintain optimal efficiency.

Design and features of the Mercedes EQC

Despite the fact that the EQC shares its underpinnings with the conventionally powered GLC, Mercedes has made enough changes to the appearance to make it stand apart. With a piano black grille flanked by a pair of sleek LED headlamps, the front fascia stands out. A continuous light strip connects the elegant tail-lamps at the back, and the vehicle's green credentials are reaffirmed by the distinctively designed alloy wheels with blue accent.

The cabin is the same way. It's a typical new-age Mercedes, but touches like the ribbed finish on the door pads, bronze inlays in the air-conditioning vents, and new-age fabric upholstery hint at the EQC's all-electric status.

The e-SUV will be equipped with seven airbags, Attention Assist, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with linked car tech, voice assistant, and a sunroof, among other things.

Mercedes-Benz EQC electric motor and battery

Two asynchronous motors, one on each axle, produce a combined 408hp and 765Nm of torque in the EQC. On a single charge, an 85kWh lithium-ion battery pack installed on the floor may give a WLTP-certified range of 400km.

Charging times are estimated to be 21 hours using a typical 15A (3.4kW) residential electrical supply, or 10 hours using Mercedes' 7.5kW wall-box charger. The network of 50kW DC fast chargers that is steadily emerging across numerous cities can significantly lower these charging times.
