Tata Motors is developing three electric vehicle platforms for future vehicles.

Tata Motors has unveiled TPEML (Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited), a new standalone EV business that will be in charge of launching future EVs. Tata plans to launch ten new electric vehicles in India over the next four years, with an investment of Rs 15,000 crore. TPEML plans to build its passenger EV lineup on three platforms.

The new subsidiary's TPEML new electric vehicles will be built on three platforms. The initial platform will be an ICE that has been transformed, followed by a custom  EV architecture known as Sigma platform, and ultimately a new skateboard platform.

The first will be an ICE platform, the second will be a custom EV Sigma platform architecture, and the third will be a skateboard-specific platform. The Nexon EV and Tigor EV, which are both based on X1 and X0 ICE platforms respectively modified to suit the battery packs and necessary internals, are currently the best-selling EVs, and the same formula will continue.

ICE converted platform

The Nexon EV and the Tigor EV are two electric vehicles. Essentially, an internal combustion engine car is changed to an electric vehicle. Tata Motors has previously accomplished this by turning conventional Nexon and Tigor vehicles to electric vehicles. Because constructing an electric vehicle from the ground up will take a long time and a lot of study, this is done. Using an existing platform is far more cost effective for the maker. Nexon's X1 architecture will underpin the future Nexon Coupe EV or Blackbird.

Sigma platform

The problem with the ICE converted platform is that it was designed for an internal combustion engine, so there is no specialised battery room. As a result, the manufacturer's battery storage space is limited. As a result, space must be taken from the floorboard and even the boot. This has an impact on the occupants' comfort as well as the vehicle's practicality. Because of the limited space, manufacturers are forced to employ smaller batteries, which means the driving range is also constrained.

Tata Sierra EV

Based on the ALFA debuted in the Altroz. The heavily modified platform has its transmission tunnel removed, fuel tank area tweaked and side members altered to bring forth a flat floor that will liberate space for a large battery pack.

Vehicles built on the Sigma platform will be able to accommodate a larger battery, making them more economical and extending their driving range. The Sigma platform will be used in the Sierra EV, which is expected to debut in 2025. So it'll be a few years before it happens.

Skateboard platform

The third platform, which is best for electric cars, is the Skateboard platform. It appears to be precisely as it sounds. As a result, there are four wheels on each corner and a flat board in the middle. This frees up a lot of interior space while also providing plenty of room for the batteries. The Skateboard platform is used by companies like Tesla and Hyundai.

Skateboard platform

The E-GMP platform is utilised on Hyundai's IONIQ automobiles as well as some Kia electric vehicles. The Tata Motors Skateboard platform, on the other hand, is still a few years away because it can only be used on electric vehicles, therefore the Indian market for buying and accepting electric vehicles would need to evolve.

The platform will only be used in Tata EVs in the future, and options for obtaining a skateboard from a third party or developing one in-house are presently being considered. Hyundai and Kia's E-GMP specialised EV platform is believed to have been benchmarked by Tata.

The Advanced Concept of the Altroz EV is based on the Altroz premium urban automobile, which is built on the ALFA Architecture's lightweight, modular, and flexible qualities, allowing it to expand into a variety of modern, youthful, and agile cars in a short development cycle.

The Altroz EV is a dynamic vehicle that reinvents the city automobile and resets the rules for the industry catering to the mature client, based on the successful 45X concept from Auto Expo 2018. The Altroz EV is a mix of futuristic design, smart technology, intuitive connectivity, and exceptional performance, with a stronger emphasis on integrating connectivity and everyday mobility together.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Tata Altoz EV TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

EV Engine and specification:

The Tata Altroz EV could be powered by the same battery pack that powers the Nexon EV. The model will, however, most likely have a varied power output and driving range. The driving range may be north of 300 kilometres.

Exterior design:

The EV version is projected to have a revised grille, a modified air dam, a new teal blue colour, electric blue highlights all around, and no exhaust pipe at the back, as opposed to the ICE-powered Altroz.

Interior and features:

The Tata Altroz EV's interior is believed to be nearly identical to its ICE equivalent. The absence of a mechanical gearbox, which will result in extra space around the centre console, is the only change we expect.

Seating capacity:

The upcoming Tata Altroz EV will have a seating capacity of five occupants.
